Who is Amy Coney Barrett?

Who is Amy Coney Barrett?

She is 48 years old and grew up outside of New Orleans in Metairie, Louisiana. She received her undergraduate degree from Rhodes College and earned her law degree from Notre Dame, where she graduated first in her class.

She has been married to her husband, Jesse, since 1999. They have seven children together, two of which were adopted from Haiti. She is a practicing Catholic and currently lives in South Bend, Indiana.

She clerked for the late Justice Antonin Scalia from 1998 to 1999 and spent a few years practicing law before moving into academia. Federal courts, constitutional law and statutory interpretation are the subjects she taught at Notre Dame, where she was named Professor of the Year three times. In 2010, she became a full professor of law.

President Trump nominated her to the 7th circuit in May 8, 2017, and she received bipartisan support at her confirmation hearing. 450 former students signed a letter to the Judiciary Committing telling senators that Professor Barrett was supremely qualified. Also, she received unanimous support from her Notre Dame colleagues who stated that despite their wide range of political views, they were united in their judgment of Amy.

As a judge she has been described as a “champion of originalism."

On the appeals court, she wrote a dissenting opinion in Kanter v Barr that gives us a glimpse of how she will rule on 2nd Amendment cases in the future. The plaintiff, who had been accused of a white-collar crime, argued that the federal and state laws that prohibit people convicted of felonies from having guns violate his second amendment right to bear arms. Barrett said at the country's founding, legislatures took away the gun rights of people who were believed to be dangerous. She argued that the laws are too broad because they ban people from having a gun without any evidence that they pose a risk. Barrett stressed that the 2nd amendment “confers an individual right, intimately connected with the natural right of self defense and not limited to civic participation."

This approach is positive for those of us who support the 2nd Amendment.

While she doesn’t have a long judicial career with many opinions, it is believed she is a strong originalist because she has said she shares the same philosophy as Justice Scalia.

The left is going to go after her because she is conservative and an originalist. Oh, and she is Catholic.

They have already demonstrated in her confirmation to the Appellate Court that her faith is going to be a point to attack. They have already started to sink to a lower level. I have seen attacks and calls for investigations into the adoption of her two children.

The Left is a horrible bunch and shows why we have to re-elect President Trump.

Joe Biden Told Voters the Second Amendment DOES NOT Protect an Individual Right

During a September 2019 “townhall” hosted by New Hampshire ABC affiliate WMUR, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden made clear that he does not believe the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms and that the U.S. Supreme Court decision in District of Columbia v. Heller was incorrect.

2020 ‘Virtual’ Gun Rights Policy Conference, Biggest Attendance In History ~ VIDEO

“It was the biggest gathering of gun rights activists in the world,” said Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, in the aftermath of this weekend’s 35th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, held entirely online for the first time in history.

Senate report slams Bidens for conflicts of interest, flags possible criminal activity

A year-long Senate investigation concluded Wednesday that Hunter Biden's efforts to cash in on foreign business deals during his father's vice presidency raised alarm among U.S. government officials, who perceived an ethical conflict of interest and flagged concerns about possible criminal activity ranging from bribery to sex trafficking.

Second Amendment cases likely to come up after SCOTUS seat confirmation

Second Amendment-related cases are likely to come before the Supreme Court between this year and next after the new justice is sworn in, and cases that were previously rejected may get a second life.

Things Just Got Real! - The Death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg

Things just got real!

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who served on the Supreme Court since 1993, passed away at the age of 87. She consistently ruled with the liberal side of the court, and in the 2000 case Gore v Bush, she famously wrote “I dissent” instead of the traditional “I respectively dissent."

It has been no secret that her seat would most likely be the next one to be open, but I wasn’t sure it would be in this term or the next. I really thought she was determined to make it until there was a switch in control of the White House.

She proved to be very strong and resilient as she has battled health problems for the last several years. I think if it had been a Democrat president, she would have retired but you have to give her credit for her determination and commitment.

Now the conversation has turned to when the opening will be filled. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the President have called for a replacement before the election. Senator Ted Cruz has also said that we could have a crisis if we go into the election with a 4-4 court.

If this election goes to the Supreme Court, much like the 2000 Bush/Gore election, we could be in trouble.

Can the seat be filled prior to the election? I don’t see how, but since the President has been maintaining a list, he could send a nomination to the senate as early as next week.

The Democrats will do everything they can to fight and delay. I don’t know if I would want to be that nominee based on what Justice Kavanaugh went through. I think this process could be even worse because this nominee can shift the balance of the court.

The President has announced that the nominee will be a woman. A woman nominee will put the Democrats in an interesting position as they try to determine how to destroy this judge. The Democrats will reveal their true colors about how they really feel about women.

If we didn’t have enough evidence about the importance of this election, this vacant Supreme Court seat has just elevated it. Also, our control of the Senate is also at stake, so we need to get everyone out to vote RED.

Our 2nd Amendment rights are in serious jeopardy. If we lose the election and the Supreme Court, they will come for our guns.

It is important to get out to vote and get all of our gun-loving friends and family to vote as well.

Biden pushes gun control less than 24 hours after attempted assassination on deputies

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Sunday called for gun control less than 24 hours after two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies who were critically wounded in Compton after a gunman opened fire on their squad car in an apparent ambush.

Pavlich: Biden is still out of touch on gun control

Endorsing confiscation of lawfully purchased firearms, including the AR-15, is not support of the Second Amendment. With record numbers of new gun owners, continuing civil unrest and failure by Democrats to defend good police while remaining tepid on increased criminality, gun control is a losing issue for the “moderate” Biden campaign.

Biden's Gun Control Claims at Odds With Crime Stats

What about Biden’s claims that the assault weapons ban saved lives?

Since the ban expired in September 2004, murder and overall violent crime rates have fallen. In 2003, the last full year before the law expired, the U.S. murder rate was 5.7 per 100,000 people. The murder rate never returned to that level, and fell to 5.0 per 100,000 people by 2018.

The Fight Over SCOTUS Will Determine The Future Of The 2nd Amendment

If Trump were to lose in November, however, then Chief Justice Roberts won’t be the biggest cause for concern among gun owners. Instead, we could expect an overhaul of the Court itself, with Democrats changing the rules in order to pack the court with anti-gun justices who could render the Second Amendment a dead letter, legally speaking.

9-11 and Never Forget

Nineteen years ago on 9-11-2001, American came together as a nation during a tragic time.

I remember representatives of Congress praying on the steps of the Capitol, and the President quoted Psalm 23 in his nationwide address. Not one protest demanding separation of church and state.

No one called for the defunding of the police but quite the contrary. Images such as this one were everywhere. Our first responders were heroes and celebrated as such.

Every year on the anniversary we see slogans saying "Never Forget," but it sure seems like some have forgotten who our heroes are.

Can we recover? I hope so, but the only way will be at the ballot box.

Guns, the NRA and the Second Amendment are under assault from the left

The promotion of civil unrest and the systematic destruction of neighborhoods and businesses have been permitted with limited consequences under the guise of the First Amendment’s protection of the right to protest. Yet when the case for protecting the Second Amendment couldn’t be stronger to reasonable Americans, the left is yet again trying to weaken it.

Fear Of Biden Gun Control Plans Could Drive Gun Sales Even Higher

Former Vice President Joseph Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris are pushing for an aggressive gun control policy that is making gun makers nervous and having the unintended effect of driving sales to epic proportions.

Americans' Very Right to Keep and Bear Arms Is on the Ballot This Election | Opinion

Democrats will "confiscate your guns and appoint justices who will wipe away your Second Amendment," President Trump warned in his recent acceptance speech for the Republican presidential nomination.

He's right. Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris has promised to use executive orders to ban guns, and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has promised to make former Congressman Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) his gun czar.

A Second Amendment Grade for President Trump So Far

In his most recent State of the Union address, President Donald Trump promised the American people, “So long as I am President, I will always protect your Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms.” This was certainly a welcome statement from any elected official, particularly from the nation’s chief executive during a time of unprecedented attacks on the Second Amendment by many local, state, and federal lawmakers.

But how has the President’s first term stacked up against his grand promise?
