Last week the newsletter shared the guidance issued by the ATF regarding pistol braces. You can read what I wrote here. On Thursday, December 17, the Department of Justice posted Docket Number 2020R-10, Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with "Stabilizing Braces." On Wednesday, December 23 the ATF withdrew this guidance. The notice is posted here. Why did they withdraw it? I believe they heard our voices and realized they were not going to be able to slip it past the people without serious objections. The comment period was suppose to be open until January 4th, 2021. At the point the ATF withdrew the notice, there had already been 70,000 comments. In addition to the comments, 90 members of Congress signed a letter objecting to the guidance. The letter is here. The comments made by the members of Congress were spot on. "Should the guidance give clarity to the industry and law-abiding citizens it would provide better insight into the issue at hand. However, the guidance does just the opposite by allowing the ATF to be subjective in their determination" It goes on to say "...it is obvious the ATF has no interest in clarifying the matter but banning stabilizing braces outright...." The mainstream media has tried to convince everyone that those who are conservative, believe in the 2nd Amendment and support traditional values are the fringe, but that is not the case. We are the majority, and that was demonstrated by the election. We have to continue making our voices heard and fight. We also have to remind members of Congress that they work for us, and they need to show courage and fight for us. If they continue to worry about what committees they can get on or what parties they are invited to versus what we want them to do, we will replace them. If your Congressman was one of those who signed on to the letter, let him/her know you appreciate his/her courage, and if he/she was one who didn't, ask him/her why. |
