Gun control becomes a big topic during election time or following some sort of shooting incident.  More often than not, if it is members of the media or politicians talking guns, you can almost guarantee they will say something that is inaccurate or just down right stupid.  Some key words that will indicate that they are about to talk about something they don't understand are Assault Weapon, Universal Background Check, Clip, Automatic, Military Style, Common Sense Gun Laws, and, my personal favorite, Gun Show Loophole. As a supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a FFL, I take issue with all of these false statements.  First, how can any "common sense gun law" be proposed when the people writing it don't understand guns or the industry.  Their definitions of "assault weapons" and "automatic weapons" are comical.   The "Gun Show Loophole" is either based on ignorance or is a blatant attempt to manipulate the public.  I suspect it is both.  The statement implies that gun shows are arenas to bypass gun laws.  But the truth is that gun shows function the same as any other purchase.  What they are really talking about is regulating the sale of firearms between private individuals.   Besides being impossible to interpret, there is no proof that any new laws would be effective.  Plus, the writers of these laws never take into account how to enforce any of them. Petersen said that listening to his constituents and pro-Second Amendment activists were very "helpful" and mattered to his decision-making process.

Bernie, Bernie, Bernie.   I was talking to a coworker the other day who isn't very political but he was asking me what was going on with all the gun laws being proposed.  I replied that there is a shifting on the fringe of the society that has gotten more liberal than ever before.  And we have some who have gone from liberal to socialist as is evident by the results that Bernie Sanders had in Iowa and New Hampshire.   My co-worker then went on to say that he didn't think he would see in his lifetime or his kids' lifetime where gun ownership would be in jeopardy.  I explained that in Virginia, the governor has proposed a budget that has increased dollars for law enforcement and prisons to go along with universal background checks, an assault weapon ban and outlawing magazines that can hold over 12 rounds.  Why would he propose these items?  He is anticipating arresting and imprisoning more people as a result of them failing to register or turn in their weapons. This news did cause my co-worker to pause. Now we're seeing a self-admitted socialist leading the democratic candidates.  If history has taught us anything, a disarmed populace is part of the game plan of socialists and their desire to implement their far-reaching socialist policies. I'm not a Chicken Little and feel that the sky is falling, but we have to be aware that we are under attack. Protecting our 2A Rights - Issue 8

This has been a very big week for President Trump as he gave a very powerful State of the Union address, was acquitted in the Impeachment trial, and the jobs report showed 225,000 new jobs against projections of only 150,000.  The news of Rush Limbaugh's cancer diagnosis has saddened me.  My mother died of lung cancer, and it is a terrible disease.  I started listening to Rush in the early 90s, and I remember his count up of "America Held Hostage X days" during the Clinton presidency.  Long before email, I remember receiving the Limbaugh Letter either by mail or fax and then sending it out to some of my more liberal friends.  Maybe this was my first "tweets."  We are praying for you, Rush! Protecting our 2A Rights - Issue 7

Impeachment!  Impeachment!  Impeachment!  Oh, how I am so tired of this waste of time.  It is all driven by TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).  The Left has been working on Impeachment since hours following the election.  They will do anything and say anything to either get President Trump out of office, show he is illegitimate, or defeat him in 2020. Speaking of 2020, it will be another critical election.  As it pertains to our 2A rights, just read some of the articles in this newsletter and imagine what the Left will try to do if they control the White House. As further emphasis, watch the video as a Virginia Delegate explains what an "assault weapon" is.  While it is funny, it is sad and scary to think these are the type of people who are attempting to restrict our Constitutional rights.
