Gun control becomes a big topic during election time or following some sort of shooting incident.  More often than not, if it is members of the media or politicians talking guns, you can almost guarantee they will say something that is inaccurate or just down right stupid.  Some key words that will indicate that they are about to talk about something they don't understand are Assault Weapon, Universal Background Check, Clip, Automatic, Military Style, Common Sense Gun Laws, and, my personal favorite, Gun Show Loophole. As a supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a FFL, I take issue with all of these false statements.  First, how can any "common sense gun law" be proposed when the people writing it don't understand guns or the industry.  Their definitions of "assault weapons" and "automatic weapons" are comical.   The "Gun Show Loophole" is either based on ignorance or is a blatant attempt to manipulate the public.  I suspect it is both.  The statement implies that gun shows are arenas to bypass gun laws.  But the truth is that gun shows function the same as any other purchase.  What they are really talking about is regulating the sale of firearms between private individuals.   Besides being impossible to interpret, there is no proof that any new laws would be effective.  Plus, the writers of these laws never take into account how to enforce any of them. Petersen said that listening to his constituents and pro-Second Amendment activists were very "helpful" and mattered to his decision-making process.
